Hello, friends in today’s post we are going to discuss What is Electric field and magnetic field along with this we will talk that what is difference between electrical field and magnetic field? This post is very important for that person who is connected with electrical. Because whenever an interview question is asked about the electric field and magnetic field, most people give wrong answers.
So friends, what is correct answer we will understand in this post. So let’s get start without wasting time.
What is Magnetic Field?
Area around magnet which behave like magnet is called magnetic field. In simple words area around a magnet where effect of the magnet can feel. If we bring a metal in that area then it will attract towards magnet.
Magnetic Field can produced by two methods:
- permanent magnet
- Electro-magnet
Permanent Magnet: Permanent Magnet has a stable magnetic property. For example, in big speakers, a permanent magnet is used as shown in the image below.
Permanent magnet also produce magnetic field around it, as you can see in upper image.
Electro-magnets: when we wrap a copper wire over a conductor and current flow in it. Then that conductor behaves like a magnet and field is produced around conductor that is called electro magnet.
Now many people will think that will magnetic field produced when DC current pass.
The answer is “Yes.” It doesn’t matter whether AC current is flowing or DC, always magnetic field is produced.
So friends, we have understood that what is magnetic field and how it can be produced. Now let’s understand about electrical field.
What is Electric Field?
When current flows in a conductor wire, a field is generated around it. Some people call it electric field, Which is completely wrong. It is called an electro-magnetic field.
Then, what is an electrical field let us understand it.
The area where a charge particle feel force is called an electric field. You may felt the electric field many times before. Which if I tell you with a common example:
In childhood, whenever you rub the scale in your hair and take it near small pieces of paper, you must have noticed that the pieces of paper attracted towards scale. All this happens only because of the electrical field. Now the question will come to your mind: How did the electrical field produce here?
So friends, when you rub the scale in the hair, then some charged particle (electron) comes from the hair to scale. Therefore, when you take this charged scale near the pieces of paper, that scale attracts the paper towards itself.
What is Charge Particle and how are they produced?
Friends, we know that everything is made of small particles. The smallest particle of an object which we cannot break further is called an atom. Friends, the atom may not be broken further, but there are three charges present in it.
- Electron
- Proton
- Neutron
Both protons and neutrons are present in the center of the atom but electrons present in the outer orbits of the atom. As you can see in the photo below.
So friends, whenever we rub something, these electrons come out of the atom due to friction. When electrons come out from any object, then this object positive charged and tries to take back as many electrons as it has lost. So for balancing these electron that object generate electric field around it.
How is Electric Field produced?
As mentioned above, whenever an object gets more electrons, it tries to remove them. So when we rub the scale in the hair, extra electrons would come from the hair to the scale.
And then whenever we move this charged scale near the pieces of paper, then this scale starts attracting the pieces of paper towards itself so that it can give its extra electrons to the pieces of paper.
Friends, we have understood the electric field and magnetic field very well, now let us understand the difference between electric field and magnetic field.
What is the difference between Electric field and Magnetic Field?
Electric Field | Magnetic Field |
This is produced due to charge | This is produced due to magnet |
It’s unit is Newton per coulomb | It’s unit is is guess or tesla |
This is measured with a electrometer | This is measured with a magnetometer |
